# Pricing

Accounts hold credits. Each operation has a current price in credits.
Check its live quote in the [API reference](https://monsterapi.co/docs/api) or the [account price list](https://monsterapi.co/account/prices).
The quoted operation and tariff version determine the request price. Do not assume that all operations have the same price.

## When a request is billed

A request is billed once the gateway let it through and the platform answered with a `2xx` or a `4xx`.
A `200` counts as one call to the site, with or without data, and so does any `4xx` from the platform.
That includes `400`, `403`, `404` and Facebook’s `429` `rate_limited`.
If you close the connection after the gateway let the request through, it’s billed too.

A request isn’t billed when the gateway refused it, whatever the status.
That includes a `404` with the message `no such endpoint`, a `405` and a `429` `too_many_requests`; see [Errors](https://monsterapi.co/docs/errors).
Nor is it billed when the answer is a `5xx`: `500`, `501` and `503` alike mean the operation didn’t deliver.

## No retries

A request never makes more than one call to the platform, and nothing is retried on your behalf.
Paging through a collection costs one request per page.

## Example preparation

Selecting an example and opening its saved JSON do not call a platform or spend credits.
**Prepare example** can send prerequisite requests after an explicit click. Check each prerequisite’s quote before starting.
The final operation is a separate request. Each page and each prerequisite follows the same charge and refund rules.
